What's your earliest memory?
I remember getting a bike for Christmas at the age of four or five. It was snowing outside so I couldn’t take it out.

Who do you most admire?
David Beckham. He’s not the best footballer in the world, but you have to admire what he has achieved.

What are you afraid of?
Hospitals. I spent a lot of time in them as a kid because I had cystic fibrosis and eczema . I was sometimes in for months at a time. Ever since then I’ve hated going. A couple of years ago at the Grand Prix in Aberdeen I had gastro-enteritis and I was rolling around in bed in agony because I didn’t want to go to hospital. In the end I had to go, but I discharged myself as soon as I could – and ended up making a 147 in my match against Steve Davis.

If a film was made of your life, who would you want to play the lead role?
Tom Hanks

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Drinking. In the past I’ve been guilty of going out too much and then practising with a hangover, which has not helped my snooker career. I’ve cut down now and hopefully you’ll see me at more venues.

What was the most trouble you got into at school?
I was a good boy really. Maybe I got into a little fight now and then.

What the most expensive thing you have bought, apart from a house or car?
A holiday in Greece.

Is there a piece of music which inspires you?
Not really – I do like a lot of music but I don’t use it for inspiration.

If you had a time machine and could go anywhere, forward or back, where would you go?
I would go forward to see what my whole life was like, and if I didn’t like it I’d go back and change it!

If you could come back in your next life as an animal, what would it be?
A dog, because I’m pretty lazy and they have a good life.
