Worldsnooker.com readers have voted Jamie Cope as their One to Watch in the coming season.
Our competition asked you to name the young players most likely to make a real impact on the pro circuit in the new campaign.
Stoke's talented young potter Cope, nicknamed the Shotgun for his fast, attacking style, topped the poll with 43% of the vote.
Leicester's Mark Selby and Bristol teenager Judd Trump were next, tied on 13%. Also in the running were Jamie Jones, David Morris, Gary Wilson and James Leadbetter.
The winning entry came from Katharina Klug from Vienna in Austria, who will receive a pair of tickets to a tournament this season. She said:
With countless 147s and even a 155 on the practice table, Jamie Cope certainly has the potential to become a star of the baize. Some flashes of genius were displayed during last season’s campaign, especially when he made life hard for world champion Shaun Murphy at the Welsh Open. He is also one to watch on TV if you like aggressive and innovative snooker.
Here are a few more of your entries:
Jamie Cope is the player to watch this season. He has already shown his ability by topping the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. His current position of 21st in the provisional rankings is a great position in aiming to challenge the game's top players. His fast-paced style of play could blow many away.
Craig Nunes, Surrey
Jamie Cope is simply a future snooker star. The way he plays and approaches the game reminds me of Ronnie O'Sullivan. We might see him moving up 20 to 30 places up the official rankings this season.
Kfir Nakdimon, Tel-Aviv, Israel
Mark Selby will make a real impact in this snooker season. He already had good results on the Tour. He's very gifted and with more experience he will have a bright future.
Sabina Virtosu, Romania
A 147 maximum at the age of 14 and numerous junior national titles certainly shows Judd Trump has the credentials to follow up this summer's two Pro-Am victories at Pontins and threaten more of the records held by his hero Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Ryan Wride, Bristol

Stephen Hendry, who regained the world No 1 position, came in second with 15%, followed by Australia’s Neil Roberton, who earned a place among the top 16, with 12%. Here’s the top ten of the players you voted for:

5. Ken Doherty 5%
6. Ding Junhui 5%
7. Mark Williams 4%
8. Steve Davis 3%
9 Paul Hunter 3%
10 Jamie Cope 3%
You were asked to briefly explain your choice and the winning entry was from Chloe McCarthy from Great Notely in Essex who said:
It has to be John Higgins. He has been an amazing player this season, determined and consistently brilliant. I believe he has been an inspiration to all aspiring snooker players there is no doubt that he deserves this honour.
Chloe wins a pair of tickets to a choice of tournaments next season.
Here are a few more of your entries:
Without a doubt, my vote goes to John Higgins. He reached four major finals and won two of them - against the world No 1. He made a record four consecutive centuries and established the record of 494 points without reply! He proved to be a great competitor and showed no sign of nerves in that amazing clearance in the last frame of the Masters final.
Ardavan Nazari, Tehran, Iran
John Higgins. Firstly, for winning two major events. Secondly, for two other major finals. Lastly, for his new blue suit and for being a nice guy!
Michal Szczuka, Katowice, Poland
I think John Higgins was the 05/06 season’s outstanding snooker player. Thoughout the season he surprised me again and again. His play against O’Sullivan in the Grand Prix final was unsurpassed by any player in the season.
Jens Lomholt Mortensen, Denmark
My player of the sesason is Stephen Hendry, who at 37 has regained the No 1 ranking when snooker is at its most compeitive. With hard work and dedication he has shown that he is still the man to beat.
Karen Williams, Barry, Wales
I nominate Neil Robertson. He came very close in the world quarter-finals to beating Graeme Dott. I think Neil will be world champion by 2008. Despite being only 24 he shows a lot of talent and temperament. Everyone here in Melbourne and Australia wishes him great 2006/07 season.
Mr Hilton Gaulbert, Melbourne, Australia
In my opinion, the best player of the season was Ken Doherty. He climbed nine places in the rankings – from 11th to second. And his incredible comeback in the final of the Malta Cup was really unbelievable. I’m glad that his good form is back.
Dana Placha, Prague, Czech Republic
Graeme Dott deserves to win player of the season beacuse of his determination and the commtiment he has shown. To go to the Crucible and win it against the odds, having played the game’s best players, was remarkable.
Paul McGilton, Liverpool
Ding Junhui. He has the composure of a master and yet is only just old enough to visit a pub! Has the confidence to dominate any player and Peter Ebdon refers to him as a genius. He has brought a new era to snooker in China, influencing the biggest population in the world.
Paul Papamichael, London
Peter Ebdon. I love the way he played. He was so calm and determined under pressure. I enjoyed seeing him play with his heart in the deciding frame against Marco Fu at the Crucible and shedding tears with the last balls. He is mentally unbelievable.
Ziyang Liu, China
My player of the season is Jamie ’Shotgun’ Cope. He hasn’t won anything yet, but what an exciting talent. Reaching a
couple of quarter finals is great for his first season. Two words describe him: Different Class.
Marcus Foster, Bristol
I choose Paul Hunter. Even though he won only one match this season, his determination and sportsmanship shown throughout the tournaments earns the utmost respect. At times he could not even stand solidly, but he kept playing and never gave up!
Mr. Ching Wing Lok, Hong Kong

The winning entry comes from Jeremy Collins from East London who suggests Matthew Stevens is saying:
"Look, pal. I think you’ll find I put my coins on the table first."
Jeremy wins a pair of tickets to a tournament of his choice on the World Snooker Tour next season.
Thanks for your entries and look out for another caption competition on worldsnooker.com coming soon.
Meanwhile, there’s still time to enter the quiz.

Competitions are back on worldsnooker.com...and the first of the summer is a caption competition. Tickets for next season's tournaments are up for grabs.
Just like last year, the winners of our competitions will receive a pair of tickets to a tournament of their choice on the 2006/07 World Snooker Tour*.
For a chance to win this time, look at the picture and try to imagine what Joe Swail and Matthew Stevens are laughing about at the Crucible.
Your entry should be an amusing caption to the picture or a comment from the Outlaw or the Welsh Dragon.
The funniest entries will be published on worldsnooker.com with the best one to win the tickets!
E-mail your entry to competitions@worldsnooker.com putting 'Caption Competition' in the subject field, or send a postcard to: Caption Competition, World Snooker, 14-16 Great Portland St, London W1W 8QW
Don't forget to include your name, address and telephone number. Entries must be received by Friday, June 2.
Look out for more competitions on worldsnooker.com in the coming weeks.
* Tickets up to and including quarter-final stage of any tournament except the 888.com World Snooker Championship.
